La Cueva Community,

Hello and I hope that all is well with you and your families. In an effort to keep our community more informed of events, create a communication link with our stakeholders, and to model the effective use of technology in our everyday lives, I have decided to open a Twitter account. On my account, I will tweet important campus information, and recognize our clubs, activities and athletic teams.

One thing I will NOT be able to do is list all of the events taking place over the course of a single day. If you want that information, please visit our school’s website (www.lacuevabears.com) and click on the “Calendar – Monthly Events” tab.

Please note that this is simply an additional source of information, and not to be viewed as the only means of communicating with the La Cueva Community.

My Twitter address is @MrResch

Thank you very much and have a wonderful day!

Sincerely,

Todd Resch

IMPORTANT - REVISED SBA/STUDENT-LED CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

February 2012

La Cueva Community,

Hello again and I hope all is well with you and your family as we continue into the spring semester. The campus is a busy place with our dedicated teachers providing rigor in the classroom, our sponsors preparing students for various competitions, and our coaches getting their teams ready for district play.

Business professionals nationwide have indicated that the two major issues that they face with new hires are:

1.  The inability to spell and write

2.  Promptness – Employees being late to work.

As an institution that believes in preparing our students for post-graduate school and business, we are addressing this issue.

Last Semester in October, La Cueva instituted a new tardy policy.  To take the burden off the classroom teacher and to address the issue of student tardiness, student tardies is now being tracked.

All Students who are late to school and/or class are to report to room B-1 (Bear Cave) where they check in, their tardiness is recorded, and they are given a pass to class.  Their tardies are tracked and here are the consequences:

Tardy 1 – 5: Tardy Recorded – Student sent to class with a pass

Tardy 6: Student called to Administration, placed on a contract, parent contacted

Tardy 7: Two hours of Detention

Tardy 8: Warning from supervisor in B-1 (Bear Cave)

Tardy 9-11: 4 Hours of Detention Each Tardy

Tardy 12: Administrative Consequences to          possibly include: Additional detention, Bear Cave, Suspension for Extra Curricular activities-athletics, suspension

A tardy that has a legitimate excuse will be recorded and not count against the accumulation of tardies.  Legitimate excuses:  Illness or doctor/dental appointments.  Those excuses should be submitted to attendance via on-line notification or a note.

We hope that this tardy policy will be an effective tool in addressing the importance of punctuality.

Have a wonderful February. As always, it is an honor and privilege to serve as your principal.

Sincerely,

School Letter Grade Memo to the La Cueva Community

January 2012

La Cueva Community,

Welcome back! I hope that all of you had a wonderful break. It was great being back on campus and seeing all of our students and staff. Spring is an awesome time on a high school campus and I am looking forward to a successful semester for our students, staff and community.

In reviewing the month of January, a few important dates stand out. Our 8th grade academic orientation and open house is scheduled for Monday, January 23rd at 6:30 pm in the main gymnasium. On Saturday, January 28th, La Cueva will be having its Winter Ball at the Albuquerque Convention Center from 8:00pm-11:00pm. There are many other activities and events taking place in January, so please see below to keep informed:

We need to do a better job of keeping members of our school community abreast as to all of the activities and events students from La Cueva High School are involved in. So, we now have a centralized calendar, which can be accessed by our entire school community. The calendar will contain all events taking place as they pertain to La Cueva High School. Please keep informed by visiting our school’s website calendar, which is at www.lacuevabears.com, then click on the “Calendar – Monthly Events” tab on the left side, third tab from the bottom, to prepare for a variety of upcoming events.

The spring semester goes very quickly, so I would highly recommend that you regularly check the school’s calendar to keep informed as important dates quickly approach.

I hope that all of you have a wonderful January. I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve this outstanding school community. It is an honor and privilege to be the principal at La Cueva High School.

Sincerely,
